ACCESS TO FOOD

— capacity to nourish —

Food security is about more than having enough food available.

It is also about whether people can reliably reach nutritious options, whether community organizations have the infrastructure to serve them well, and whether the local food system can respond as needs change.

THE CHALLENGE

Food insecurity places pressure on individuals, families, and the organizations working to support them.

Meeting that challenge requires both immediate assistance and strong systems capable of delivering food consistently, efficiently, and with dignity.

OUR APPROACH

We invest in organizations and collaborations working to expand access to nutritious food while strengthening the systems that make that access possible.

That may mean supporting food pantries and meal programs, improving transportation or storage capacity, upgrading facilities and equipment, or helping organizations rethink how food reaches the people they serve.

Loaves and Fishes

We have supported Loaves and Fishes’ day-to-day work through general operating grants. When we learned that its delivery fleet was aging, we saw a need the organization had not asked us to fund.

Food

Meals on Wheels Greenville

As Greenville grew, Meals on Wheels needed a larger home to keep pace. We made the lead philanthropic gift toward its new facility, helping create room for more meals and more volunteer deliveries.

Food

Mill Village Farms

We partnered with Mill Village Farms to expand its cooling capacity, allowing the FoodShare program to double the number of people it could serve.
